User
The User feature provides Steam identity information for the local user and other Steam users known to the Steam client.
It can return Steam User IDs, persona names and states, identity structures, and avatar textures for profile and social UI.
Main Capabilities
- Retrieve the local Steam User ID
- Retrieve the local persona name and persona state
- Retrieve the local identity as a single structure
- Query identity information for another Steam user
- Download Steam avatars in multiple sizes
- Validate Steam User IDs
- Check whether a Steam User ID belongs to the local user
Basic Workflow
For local identity, the synchronous local-user getters can be used directly.
For another Steam user:
- Obtain a
FSteamUserIDfrom Friends, Lobbies, Multiplayer, or another Steam feature. - Call Get Steam User Identity or Get Steam User Avatar.
- Handle the asynchronous result.
- Use the returned data in your player profile or social UI.
For practical Blueprint workflows, see Examples.
User Identity
Steam identity data is represented by FSteamUserIdentity.
Persona state uses ESteamPersonaState.
The local identity getters are synchronous because Steam already knows the local user's basic state.
Avatars
Avatar requests are asynchronous and return a texture when Steam provides the requested image.
Available sizes are represented by ESteamAvatarSize.
Avatar data may be unavailable for some users until their persona information is known to the Steam client.
Important Notes
- Remote identity queries work for friends or other users known to Steam.
- Steam privacy and persona availability can affect returned information.
- Persona state can change while the game is running.
- This feature exposes identity data; it does not provide account authentication or Steam account management.
