Screenshots

The Screenshots feature integrates with Steam's screenshot system.

It can trigger the standard Steam screenshot flow, add custom images to the Steam screenshot library, attach location metadata, and report screenshot-related events.

Main Capabilities

  • Trigger a standard Steam screenshot
  • Add an existing image file to the Steam screenshot library
  • Add a screenshot from raw RGBA pixel data
  • Set screenshot location metadata
  • Subscribe to Steam screenshot-requested events
  • Subscribe to screenshot-ready events

Basic Workflow

For the standard Steam flow, call Trigger Steam Screenshot and allow Steam to handle the capture.

For a custom photo-mode workflow:

  1. Produce an image file or RGBA pixel buffer in your game.
  2. Add it to Steam through the appropriate function.
  3. Store the returned FSteamScreenshotHandle if you need to apply metadata such as a location string.
  4. Listen for screenshot-ready events when your flow needs completion feedback.

For practical Blueprint workflows, see Examples.

Screenshot Events

Persistent screenshot events use FSteamScreenshotsListenerHandle.

The screenshot-ready event reports the result of Steam processing the screenshot, including ESteamScreenshotResult.

Important Notes

  • Steam client settings and permissions can affect screenshot behavior.
  • When adding custom images, your project is responsible for producing valid image data or file paths.
  • Raw RGBA input must match the supplied image dimensions.
  • Screenshot event subscriptions should be removed when no longer needed.
