DLC

The DLC feature provides access to downloadable content configured for the current Steam application.

It can be used to enumerate DLC, check installation state, request installation or removal, monitor download progress, and react when Steam finishes installing DLC.

Main Capabilities

  • Retrieve the DLC configured for the current application
  • Check whether a DLC is installed
  • Request DLC installation
  • Request DLC uninstallation
  • Read active download progress
  • Subscribe to DLC installation events

Basic Workflow

A typical DLC workflow is:

  1. Create and configure the DLC in Steamworks.
  2. Use Get Steam DLC List to retrieve available DLC information.
  3. Use Is Steam DLC Installed before enabling DLC-specific game content.
  4. If needed, call Install Steam DLC.
  5. Listen for the DLC installed event or query download progress while Steam handles the installation.

For Steamworks configuration, see Steamworks Setup.

For practical Blueprint workflows, see Examples.

DLC Information

DLC entries are represented by FSteamDLCInfo.

The structure contains the Steam App ID of the DLC together with its name, availability, and installed state as reported by Steam.

Installation Events

Install Steam DLC sends an installation request to Steam. Completion is not returned synchronously.

Use Subscribe To Steam DLC Installed to receive installation completion events. The subscription returns FSteamDLCListenerHandle, which should be stored and later used to unsubscribe.

Important Notes

  • DLC must already exist and be configured in Steamworks.
  • Installation and download behavior is controlled by the Steam client.
  • A DLC App ID is different from the base game's App ID.
  • Installation state is local to the current Steam user and machine.
  • Is Steam DLC Installed reports whether the DLC is currently installed on the local machine. FSteamDLCInfo also exposes the availability state reported by Steam.
